We’ve come a long way in ten years. What started as a crowdsourcing platform under the name Dolores Labs evolved into the human-in-the-loop machine learning platform Figure Eight is today. We’ve helped researchers create databases of rare diseases, annotated disaster messages during the Haitian earthquake of 2010, and helped hundreds of the world’s most successful companies with their most ambitious artificial intelligence (AI) projects. But one thing we’d never done is hit a billion human judgments in a single year.
Figure Eight is proud to announce that we’re in the midst of our first billion judgment calendar year. In fact, we logged that in November.
What does it mean? Well, for starters, it shows how much training data the world needs right now. After all, a vast majority of these annotations are powering machine learning initiatives across all manner of industries, from autonomous vehicles and ag tech to retail and finance. As more and more businesses get serious about leveraging real-world AI to improve core functionalities, it’s a number we expect to grow year over year.
It also highlights our vast network of annotators, from our curated global contributor base to our specialized BPO partners that handle sensitive data and uniquely complex tasks. Put simply, Figure Eight’s platform can handle volumes of data that no other solution can. And regardless of the volume, we pride ourselves on the fact that our quality and accuracy never slips, even with an average of over 100 million annotated data rows a month.
To that end, we’d like to extend a hearty thanks to our contributors. None of this works without you!
It’s been a great year for us here at Figure Eight. We threw Train AI, our biggest ever conference this spring, launched our on-prem product and dozens of product improvements like our new Machine Learning Assisted Video Object Tracking solution, partnered with Amazon, IBM, and Google, and even rebranded from CrowdFlower to Figure Eight. We’re proud of all of it. But nothing connects us to our history quite like real people making real judgments for real companies. And a billion of those is something we dreamed of.
We’re incredibly thankful for everyone who helped us get here.
